Lorem Ipsum is placeholder text used in the typesetting and printing industry. It has been used as the industry standard dummy text since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has not only survived for five hundred years but has also transitioned into electronic typesetting without significant changes. It became popular in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker, which includes versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not made up of random words. It has a 2000-year history, with roots in classical Latin literature from 45 BC. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, traced the origin of the word 'consectetur', one of the most difficult words to understand in a Lorem Ipsum passage, to its source in classical literature. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of Cicero's "De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (On the Limits of Good and Evil), written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on moral theory and was very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of the Lorem Ipsum passage, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet," comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
